The Arrival of the Auglish (often simply 'the Arrival') was a period of time between roughly 680 BR and 620 BR during which ships from Augland arrived on the shores of Yaradeen. Since the arrival of specific groups of Auglish varied significantly based on the progression of flooding in Augland, scholars generally include the final years of history on Augland as part of the general period known as the Arrival
The coastal regions of Nure and the Tribal Islands were the first to make a massive migration to the sea. Nure and the Islands had dealt with seasonal flooding since the beginning of recorded time, but by 674 BR, the region had spent more time flooded than not for 12 consecutive years.
In response to an economic study conducted by the Reyoran National Academy, Reyoro Julias IX declared Nure and the Islands to be officially abandoned lands, meaning the crown would no longer provide emergency support, nor maintain infrastructure in those areas.
In response to this announcement, it is estimated around 16% of the population of the noted regions moved inland toward the capital and higher ground.
However, steep tolls and immigration fees created an unmanageable burden for many refugees, who were forced to become wards of the state.
Although Viton and other coastal regions in Augland suffered similar flooding during this time period, better maintained infrastructure and more advantageous immigration policies meant that these groups of refugees were able to maintain more wealth during their migration. As a result, the society that formed in previously unsettled lands around the capital was extremely stratified along both economic and ethnic lines.
Many of these 'upper-class refugees' were noted for taking advantage of those from Nure and the Islands. Reports of violence, theft, and abuse of Nurians and Islanders were exceedingly common, and arrests for these crimes were exceedingly rare.
In 670 BR, warded refugees organized a massive strike to protest their oppression, but the demonstration backfired. In response, the Reyoro officially revoked many of the rights which had previously protected wards.
Back in Nure, a fringe movement to sail out into the uncharted sea in search of new land instead of emigrating inland had begun to gather steam. With the Reyoran revocation of rights, this fringe movement became dominant, and the population quickly mobilized to prepare for a trip of unknown length across the sea.
Over the next 6 months, residents who were already living in floating residences upgraded their homes to make them seaworthy and to accommodate additional residents. Larger existing vessels, such as merchant ships and ferries, were outfitted with production capabilities that would be critical out at sea.
During this period, circulation of currency dropped precipitously, and most services
In the spring of 669 BR, the Nurian remnants set West, in a large V-formation with a long tail of ships stretching back to the old location of now-flooded Nure.
Although most merchant and civilian vessels sailed with the massive V, many stayed behind, forming a large (if somewhat amateur) armada. This armada sailed south along newly flooded routes until they reached the latitude of the capital, at which point, still undetected, they began to raid the Reyoran lands for lumber, grain, salt, birch oil, nails, and other resources which they would need to survive an unknown length of time at sea. During these raids, forces who had served as police and security in Nure formed a militia which focused on freeing warded refugees and strategically destroying infrastructure to prevent counter attack by the crown's forces.
The raids lasted less than a total of 2 weeks, but it is estimated that during that time, the armada of Nurian remnants managed to free more than 60,000 wards, and seize more than 200 tons of lumber, 60 tons of other hardware, 2,000 tons of grain, and 17 ships of other goods, while losing fewer than 1,000 soldiers and not a single ship. Once the armada made its rendezvouz with the remaining ships in Nure, all followed the tail of ships and left Augland behind.
