Elder script (abbreviated "eld.") is the primary writing system used by Roduram languages. Despite post-arrival assimilation efforts by scholars to create a new writing system that could be used for both Auglish & Roduram languages, none of these alternatives caught on, and Elder script remains the primary writing system used in most of Yaradeen, and is the official script everywhere on the landmass except for New Reyoranlands.
The term "elder script" is of purely Auglish origin. Roduram refer to the alphabet as jEsAlEs, (auglicized as Sheesaa'lees or Zeesa'lees), which translates to "fast-music". Despite the use of "elder" in this term, there is no fundamental connection between the Religion of the 4 Elders and the writing system. The term "elder script" arose in the first years of Roduram-Auglish contact. An Auglish diplomat with little linguistic experience took notes as best he could, but unable to follow well what the Roduram were communicating, made some fundamental translation errors. By the time better translators established contact, the term "elder script" had already taken root in literature, and the ambiguous auglicization of jEsAlEs helped cement "elder script" as the accepted Auglish term for the alphabet.
